What was reported

On June [XXX], 2026 at 8:14 PM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving an SUV on [XXX] near [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling southbound on [XXX] when it came to a stop in-lane to yield to an SUV. The SUV was facing south and rolling backwards northbound on [XXX], partially in the southbound lane and partially in the northbound lane. The Waymo AV began to reverse in lane. The SUV continued to roll backwards and the rear right side of the SUV made contact with the front left side of the Waymo AV. Both the Waymo AV and the SUV remained stopped momentarily, then the SUV continued to roll backwards, making further contact with the left side of the stationary Waymo AV, before briefly stopping. The SUV began to roll backwards again, at which point the driver of the SUV exited the moving SUV. The SUV continued to roll backwards northbound on [XXX], and the rear right side of the SUV made contact with the front left side of a second stationary Waymo AV ([XXX]) that was facing south, yielded in-lane behind the initial collision with the first Waymo AV. At the time of the impacts, both Waymo AVs' Level 4 ADS were engaged in autonomous mode. All three vehicles sustained damage, and both Waymo AVs were towed away. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 1 of Standing General Order 2021-01 because a vehicle involved was towed away. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
