What was reported

On July [XXX], 2026 at 3:16 PM PDT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Carson, California was in a collision involving a barrier arm on [XXX] near [XXX]. The Waymo AV was stopped facing north on [XXX], behind a passenger car stopped facing north, at the entrance to a gated community with a closed barrier arm. After the barrier arm was raised, the passenger car proceeded forward past the barrier arm, and the Waymo AV proceeded forward at a low rate of speed. As the Waymo AV approached the barrier arm, the barrier arm began to lower and the Waymo AV made contact with the barrier arm, and the barrier arm detached from its fixtures. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode, and a test driver was present in the driver's seating position. The barrier arm sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
