What was reported
On August [XXX], 2022 at 12:06 AM PST a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Tempe, Arizona was in a collision involving a passenger vehicle near [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling eastbound on [XXX] when it approached a passenger vehicle stopped along the right shoulder in the bike lane. As the Waymo AV passed the passenger vehicle, one of the passenger vehicle's driver side doors opened and made contact with the Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode, and a test driver was present (in the driver's seating position). Both vehicles sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
