Report narrative
What was reported
On November [XXX], 2022 at 8:48 AM PST a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle (Waymo AV) operating in Phoenix, Arizona was in a collision involving a garbage truck on the 500 block of [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling eastbound on [XXX] when it encountered a stopped garbage truck traveling westbound. The Waymo AV pulled to the right side of the street and stopped, unable to proceed past the garbage truck and an SUV parked parallel to the curb. The garbage truck then attempted to pass between the Waymo AV and a parked passenger vehicle to the right of the garbage truck, and the garbage truck made contact with the left rear corner of the Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AVs Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode and the Waymo AV was stationary. The Waymo AV sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
