What was reported

On July [XXX], 2023 at 11:11 AM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle (Waymo AV) operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving an SUV on [XXX] east of [XXX]. The Waymo AV was facing east, waiting to merge to the left back into eastbound traffic on [XXX], and stopped to the left of the right turn slip lane on [XXX], with stopped traffic to the right. After waiting to merge, the Waymo AV started reversing to reroute and while doing so, a sensor on the right front of the Waymo AV made contact with the left rear side of an SUV in the right turn lane. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AVs Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. The SUV sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
