What was reported

On May 28, 2024, Waymo received notice of an allegation that a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California may have contributed to a low-speed collision between a fire engine and an SUV on [XXX] near [XXX]. On May [XXX], 2024 at 6:11 PM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California was traveling north on [XXX] within its lane when it slowed to a stop as a fire engine, which was not displaying lights or sounding its sirens, approached in the oncoming direction. The Waymo AV began to slowly proceed straight within its lane as the fire engine was passing on its left. Neither the SUV nor the fire engine made contact with the Waymo AV. Waymo received notice of an allegation that as the fire engine proceeded straight, it made contact with the driver side of an SUV that was parked at the curb immediately to the right of the fire engine. When the Waymo AV proceeded in its lane past the fire engine, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
