Report narrative
What was reported
On July [XXX], 2024 at 6:53 PM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving a passenger car on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling in the rightmost lane of northbound [XXX] when it slowed to a stop for a red light at the intersection with [XXX]. While the Waymo AV remained stopped, a passenger car that had been parked at the curb of northbound [XXX] unparked and entered the rightmost lane behind the Waymo AV. The passenger car then began to change lanes into the left adjacent lane. As the passenger car was passing the stopped Waymo AV, the passenger side of the passenger car made contact with the rear driver side of the Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. Both vehicles sustained damage and the passenger car left the scene. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
