What was reported

This is an update to NHTSA report 30270-8403-2, originally submitted on August 15th, 2024. The original report indicated that there was no driver present and that no other entities may be aware of the collision. This update reflects that a test driver was present (in the driver's seating position) and that another entity may be aware of the collision. The information in the original report is otherwise unchanged. On July [XXX], 2024 at 11:06 AM CST a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Austin, Texas was in a collision involving a passenger car on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was stopped in traffic for a red light on northwestbound [XXX] in the leftmost dedicated left turn lane when a passenger car that had previously been stopped behind the Waymo AV proceeded forward and made contact with the rear of the Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode, and a test driver was present (in the driver's seating position). Both vehicles sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
