What was reported

On August [XXX], 2024 at 11:19 PM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle (Waymo AV) operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving a passenger car on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was stopped for a red light on northbound [XXX] at the intersection with [XXX] when a passenger car traveling eastbound on [XXX] made a right turn onto [XXX]. As the Waymo AV remained stopped, the oncoming passenger car pulled very close to the Waymo AV in an attempt to pass it in the narrow roadway with parked vehicles on both sides of the street. The Waymo AV then began reversing to create space between itself and the passenger car. As the Waymo AV was reversing, the Waymo AVs driver side front bumper made contact with the passenger cars driver side front bumper. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AVs Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. Both vehicles sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 1 of Standing General Order 2021-01 because a vehicle involved was towed away. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
