What was reported

On October [XXX], 2024 at 5:27 PM MT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Austin, Texas was in a collision involving a passenger car on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling in the rightmost of the two westbound lanes on [XXX]. The lane to the AV's left was occupied by a queue of stopped traffic. As the Waymo AV proceeded straight, a passenger car traveling eastbound on [XXX](likely in the two-way center turn lane) initiated a left turn and crossed into a gap between queued traffic to the Waymo AV's left. The passenger car proceeded to turn left into the right lane (in which the Waymo AV was traveling). The Waymo AV applied heavy braking but the front of the Waymo AV made contact with the passenger side of the passenger car. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. Both vehicles sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 1 of Standing General Order 2021-01 because a vehicle involved was towed away and because of airbag deployment. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
