What was reported
On October [XXX], 2024 at 12:54 AM MT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Scottsdale, Arizona was in a collision involving a SUV on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling north on [XXX], when it approached a vehicle that was stopped in the single travel lane for a passenger pickup. The Waymo AV began to maneuver around the stopped vehicle by entering the clear southbound lane. The Waymo AV entered the southbound lane and came to a stop to yield to other cars and pedestrians. The vehicle that the Waymo AV had been passing then pulled forward. Traffic, including another Waymo AV, began passing northbound to the right of the Waymo AV, and traffic began approaching in the southbound direction. The Waymo AV remained stationary in the southbound lane with its right turn signal activated, attempting to re-enter the northbound lane, but was unable due to the additional traffic now proceeding in the northbound direction. While the Waymo AV remained stationary in the southbound lane, an SUV traveling southbound passed the Waymo AV, and the driver side of the SUV made contact with the driver side of the stopped Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. Both vehicles sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01 Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
