What was reported

On November [XXX], 2024 at 11:31 AM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in San Francisco, California was in a collision involving an enclosed trailer being towed by a pickup truck on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling northwest on [XXX] in the center of three lanes, approaching the intersection with [XXX], at which point [XXX] becomes [XXX]. As the Waymo AV was exiting the intersection, a pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer in the left lane of [XXX] slowed and began to merge into the center lane while the Waymo AV was next to the enclosed trailer. The Waymo AV slowed, and maneuvered slightly toward the right lane on [XXX] before coming to a stop, yielding to the merging pickup truck and enclosed trailer. While the Waymo AV remained stopped, the pickup truck continued merging into the center lane of [XXX], and the passenger side of the enclosed trailer made contact with the front driver side of the stationary Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode. Both the Waymo AV and the enclosed trailer sustained damage. Waymo is reporting this crash under Request No. 1 of Standing General Order 2021-01 because a vehicle involved was towed away. Waymo may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available.
