What was reported

On February [XXX], 2023 at 5:27 PM PST a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Tempe, Arizona was in a collision involving a SUV on [XXX] at [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling North on [XXX] in the right most lane. As the Waymo AV approached the intersection of [XXX], traffic in the two lanes to the left of the Waymo AV was backed up and slow or stopped. A SUV attempted to merge from the leftmost lane across a gap in traffic in the center lane and into the rightmost lane. While attempting to enter the Waymo AV's lane, the front right of the SUV made contact with the rear left of the Waymo AV. At the time of the impact, the Waymo AV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode, and a test driver was present (in the driver's seating position). Both vehicles sustained damage. Transdev Alternative Services is reporting this crash under Request no. 2 of Standing General Order 2021-01.
