What was reported

On [XXX], 2023 at 9:29 PM PT a Waymo Autonomous Vehicle ("Waymo AV") operating in Mesa, Arizona was ina. collision involving an object on the [XXX], East of [XXX]. The Waymo AV was traveling eastbound in the far right lane on a three-lane stretch of the [XXX] when a load of hay bales fell off a truck traveling in the center lane ahead of the Waymo AV. The front left fender of the Waymo AV made contact with a hay bale. At the time of the impact, the Waymo WV's Level 4 ADS was engaged in autonomous mode, and a test driver was present (in the driver's seating position). The Waymo AV sustained damage. Transdev Alternative Services is reporting this crash under Request No. 2 of Standing General order 2021-01. Transdev may supplement or correct its reporting with additional information as it may become available. This is a duplicate of NHTSA Report ID 30270-5757-1.
