Report narrative
What was reported
A Zoox vehicle (Vehicle 1) operating in autonomous mode, was traveling northeast on [XXX] approaching [XXX] in San Francisco. A passenger car (Vehicle 2) was parallel parked on the right side of the roadway in the same direction as the Zoox vehicle. The passenger car pulled out of the parking spot and made a U-turn into the opposite travel lane, and unexpectedly crossed the double-yellow centerline and veered into the Zoox vehicle's travel lane. The Zoox vehicle braked in response to the encroaching passenger car however the passenger car made contact with the Zoox vehicle's driver's side fender and front and rear doors. The Zoox vehicle operator disengaged from autonomy and braked to a stop shortly after. The Zoox vehicle sustained major damage and had to be towed from the scene. The frontal airbags deployed on the passenger car and it sustained moderate damage to the front driver's side. The passenger car driver fled the scene and did not exchange information. The police were called to the scene and there were no reported injuries.
